I have been stuck in Blacktown hospital since last Friday week. Missed my trip to Wiruna.:(
I am now waiting for some more testing to see if there is any thing wrong with me. Might get out next week with a bit of luck. In time for the SPSP?
At least the nurses are great and so are the meals (except when you get the NBM sticker).:P
I am not incapacitated and can move around and actually feel quite fit although I get needles jabbed every day and blood tests with the occasional drip feed. I have had so many blood tests I soon won't have any left. My arms look like I am a drug addict.
Barry
PS I have my computer + internet and I have a secret cache of sugar and salt! Both items are often missing.
That's not good Barry.
Hope they sort you out quickly so you can get home.
It's never good to be stuck in hospital.

I hope you are ok and back on board soon Barry. Flip side is now you can serf the net all day!
Hospital food...probably some of the greyish mush I have ever had the misfortune to consume. I used to complain about Military food but in reality the military were top notch.
Maybe you can email master Chef or such like to do a "hospital segment"!

Yeserday I was on the NBM all day. When the surgery was finally abandoned at 8:00 PM all they could find was cucumber sangers (I hate pommy food). After starving for 24 hrs they were beautiful!

Hope all is well Barry. Best wishes.
Hi Barry,
Hope you are out soon and back on the observing field soon.
Be sure to make good use of those Avagard hand wash dispensers in the corridors.
No fun picking up another bug and as you are aware, many of them are becoming quite
resilient.

Sorry to hear your in hospital Barry. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Hi Barry,
Not us, but they're there for good reason.
3M are a major manufacturer of these products.
A couple of friends who are scientists at one of Sydney's major hospitals
periodically talk of the increasing risks of these bugs which can
find their way, for example, on the surfaces of the doors in a hospital
where people push them to open.
They are becoming increasingily difficult to treat even in fit young males
let alone pensioners from Beaumont Hills, so keep up the hand washing
and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Best regards
Gary

hi Ross
Trevor won't be at the meeting either. He is up at Surfers. Apologize to Mike. Tell him the doctors are great here.
I am on the waiting list again today NBM so with a bit of luck they will get their "bios" and I can escape from here.
Thanks to all the rest of you for your good wishes.

I have my computer and internet.
I am next to a big window that looks to the south east. However there is a carpark lit with sodium lamps and I can't even see a single star. so a telescope would not be any use.
They said i will be OK for the SPSP so I will catch up there.

Hi all,
Barry is still recovering in hospital, he had his biopsy on Wednesday and is in the ICU as his blood pressure is low and his pulse to high. He is more getting annoyed than anything, as he has 101 wires attached, can't get out of bed and can't set up his computer as they don't give him anywhere to plug it in.
Hopefully he will be in a normal ward by Saturday, and then out altogether by mid next week.
Cheers
Trevor

I got carted by ambulance the other night myself, it's really scary. The backlash in all our gears is increasing by the day :eyepop:

Oh yes,
Thanks jjj. I got a giant tummy ache, and it was thought wise to see if it was a heart attack. It wasn't, so they kicked me out in disgust after many tests :P.
I was pretty sure it was just a guts ache because I knew (but did not tell anyone) :D what excesses I had committed at lunch with the blokes the day before
So a different thing to Barry, his isn't self inflicted :D
Cheers

Did they offer you the green peace pipe? ;)

26-04-2013, 07:03 PM
LOL,
No, the spoilsports:mad2:
I would have said yes too, since I always wanted to go flying without a broomstick :P
What I did get was a concoction called a 'Pink Lady', which was a draught of Mylanta with a layer of Xylocaine syrup on top. This is a differentiation technique they use.
That settled me right down, and with the ECG, my case was quickly resolved all the way out to the footpath :eyepop:
Cheers

Thanks guys,
Barry is doing better today, sitting up annoying nurses again.
Still has more wires attached than my telescope, I asked if we could point him out the window and take a picture with him.

Barry's on the mend now. Sitting up, eating food, getting cheeky with the nurses. Hopefully he will be out of ICU tomorrow and into a regular ward.
All the annoying tubes have been removed. Just the stuff left to let them know he is alive when he has his eyes closed taking a nap.:)

Thanks for the good wishes. Not a problem this was always a problem waiting as I was involved in two refits on the old HMAS Melbourne, the removal of asbestos has already got a few heads including our former state governor.
I will be at the SPSP on Saturday (for the roast) and spend the night in the house next to the fire.
I am interested in how much I can sue the navy for (greed, Greed, GREED). Trevor hopes I can get enough to buy him some super duper astronomy gear! Nice of him isn't it?
There is no cure

Barry I am sorry to hear this news. I have never met you but have spoken to you several times on the phone. Aside from being very knowledgeable and very helpful you have always sounded a very happy person.
Thanks for your thoughts on and help with my recent call about the LX200 ra drive - what you suggested worked. My thoughts and best wishes are now with you.
My thoughts are with you Barry.

Live each day like it was your last Barry, times like these emotions and self esteem are all over the place often with little to look forward to, be yourself and do as you please.
From experience the best advice I can offer is to do all you can to not feel any pain, seek paliative care and be sure to let them know when you feel like the prescribed pain killers are insufficent, they can and will change it, but often you need to nag them about it.
All the best Barry my thoughts are with you and your family.
Yours sincerely, Carlos.

Thanks for your thoughts and wishes. The nail is not in the coffin yet, Barry hasn't told me he is in any pain either yet. He has only been getting tired and breathless.
While at the moment it might be unbeatable, I think there is a few more years in him. I would sell all my (his) astro gear for an extra year
I told him my kids are too young to deal with no Grandpa, so he has to kick on.:)

My deeply saddened to read this, Barry. I didn't want to burden you with a PM, so many going your way before this 'news'.
I agree with Trevor - grand kids NEED their grand dad, so you got no choice, mate, but to keep on!
Alex.
