Whale Beach

Hightide over Whale Beach. Went out Sunday night hoping to get a glimpse of the Lyrid Meteor Shower, unfortunately the cloud cover was too thick. I tried to make the most of the conditions by photographing the rising tide, this proved to be a dificult. Keeping the tripod steady between sets of waves underneath it and trying to stop it sinking in the sand wasn't easy.

Sad to say I didn't see any Meteors or Whales.

Thanks Mike and Laurie :) definately gets tricky trying to take long exposures on soft wet sand. More practice needed.

yep, that tripod in the sand trick can do weird things, if you position it right when doing bright stars, you can make figure '4s' out of them, Lol .

Great Shot Carlos, I got a pair of "snow shoes" for my tripod to help keep it steady in soft sand. They are manfrotto same as my tripod but I'm sure other brands have them as well. They work well in soft wet sand. Not sure how they'd go if the tides coming in getting them wet all the time.

Thanks Matt! Yeah that's not a bad idea for the soft sand, but likewise I don't know that there is any other way of avoiding wet shifting sands :question: Now a pebble beach would be something else...
