After a lot of frustration with weather, finally got to take some images with the new motors. This was taken with my TAL200K at 1790mm @ F9.
It is only four images for four minutes at an ISO of 1600. Processed with images plus and stacked with Registar. the in camera noise reduction was on. Cloud stopped more images and the focus was not all that good.

There is no backlash and the motors are as smooth as.
Will post more tomorrow.

This is again taken with the Tal200k. Four by four minutes ISO 1600 Processed with images plus and stacked with Registar. the in camera noise reduction was on.The globular NGC 6552 is actually resolved.

This one taken with the 100ED with focal reducer 640mm at F6.4. 17x240sec ISO 1600 Hutech Nebula Filter. The Nebula is IC4628 in Scorpio with NGC6231 at top right. Top left is NGC6242, bottom left NGC6268 and Harvard 12 is the cluster to the right of IC4628.

The motors have definitely made a vast improvement, there is no backlash, the holding torque is far higher than the original motors and tracking is much smoother due to microstepping.
The result is in the pictures, much smaller tighter stars and more detail in the nebulae.

Shame that the only thing we can't order is clear skies.

Nice images Bert.

Just wondering why your stacking with registar instead of imagesplus.

Dont you like Imagesplus or do you find registar does a better job.????

Just curious.

I have had a few failures stacking with images plus. If the alignment stars are not well away from others it can fail. Maybe with the new motors which have far less drift or movement over 16+ images it would work better. Registar does do a better job as it fits over all stars.

Interesting Bert...out of all the hundreds of images I have done I have never had a failure.....what method have you used.

You will get failures if your images dont align fairly closely and you chose Correlate...if they dont align closely dew to drift then use centroid where you will pick the aligning star on every image.

I normaly use centroid and translate & Rotate but lately due to a much improved polar alignment I have been using Correlate and Translate & Rotate.

Lovely images Bert.
Moons on the way to being full and socked in bad weather here now in Newcastle :(
