Ngc2997 now with colour

Decided to image from home with BrisVegas 5Km away and the Moon a little further away.
Managed 10x600 sec and 4x1200 sec Luminance of this nice little galaxy and I was pleased that capturing a reasonable amount of data enabled just levels and curves as well as a little sharpening to lift most of it from the light pollution.
Captured with 10" SCT and 0.63 FR with a QSI583wsg.

Managed to get a few hours of 10min subs using my QHY10 camera and added to the luminance already done with registar.
Hope this improves it a bit but the moon really is washing out the colour for this galaxy.

Good capture Allan; there may even be a tiny bit more detail you could stretch out. Will you be adding RGB later?

I know there is more detail in the captured images so far and tonight I'm going for the colour. Just hope these clouds stay away but just happy to have the software and hardware all working nicely. Last night I programmed in a meridian flip and plate solve and goto and it performed flawlessly which was a real buzz to sit there and see the computer reprogram the mount and do all the hard work.

Wow very cool Allan :thumbsup: and great result on 2997 too, amazing what we can do in this digital imaging age...image a distant galaxy from a big city under an almost 3/4 illuminated moon and all automatically :eyepop:....

Great start Allan. There are some nice spiral arms in that galaxy. Good to hear your automation is working. It really is amazing what is on offer these days.

Justin, I tried for the colour and managed to get some but the moon really has washed it all out and when combined with the luminance it looks blotchy and a real mess so I've decided to wait until I can get to a dark site for the colour.


urban skies really is all I have with two neighbors with shares in Energex but glad I got something.

See discussion of pseudo-bulges vs real spheroidal bulges, in my recent thread in the science forum.("Our Galaxy - Structure and Evolution")

Some Sc galaxies seem to have only a bright inner disk, with spiral structure in it, which is quite planar, even though this can look like a bulge when seen in only two dimensions in an image.
Other Sc galaxies have an actual small spheroid, which is a real bulge.

I suspect that N2997 has a bright inner disk (a pseudo-bulge) which is possibly superposed on a small spheroidal 'real' bulge.
