Hi All,

I have a 10 inch Meade SCT and am wondering what the two thumbscrews are. They are the ones through the blue part of tube, at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions.

Please see picture below.

I just had a new mounting system delivered, but it fouls these screws, so I'm hoping they can be removed.

Thanks,
Jason.

Sorted. I had a look in through the front with a torch (derr...) and saw thy were just doing nothing, so out they came.

Does anyone know what they are for?

Cheers,
Jason.

They were placed there to stop dust etc getting into the scope. Don't take them out, just leave them in place if I were you. Someone has obviously deforked this scope from an alt/az fork mount and these are the attachment points (6 in all). Same as with my scope. It's a Meade lx50 which was a fork mounted scope.

Hi Jason,

The screws were for attachment of a finder or a LNT module perhaps.

As said before. They are the front mounting screw holes for the fork brackets that go right through and are probably just keeping the dust out. If they are in the way because they will be covered by something they can be removed.

Thanks guys.

Yep, they've been removed, a thin piece of tape put over
the holes, and now they are hidden beneath the super-duty
Homeyer cradle.

Cheers,
Jason.
