G'day All

Eric B and I have been discussing the possibility of catching up with other amateur astronomers from the Southern Adelaide area. Could even call it the Southern Adelaide Astronomers Club :D.

I live in the Seaford Rise area, whilst Eric lives in Flagstaff Hill. As there are not many astronomy events or clubs in the area (that we know of and compared to the North of Adelaide) we thought it would be a good idea to put out the word to those from the South or further a far to meet up.

I am NOT looking to start up anything too formal (i.e. no club with fee's or positions etc) just a simple get together of like minded people, maybe fortnightly or monthly for a chat/drink in a local or an observation session etc.

If you are interested please make an initial post on this thread and I will make further contact via PM.

So if you would like to meet people with the same or similar interests please consider making contact. The more the merrier!

Regards

Gav

Hi Gav and Eric

I'm in!

I've just moved to the Adelaide Hills from Northern NSW (where the skies are NEVER clear) and am looking to meet some astronomy buddies. As you say, nothing too formal. Would love to join you. PM me with details and we can take it from there!

I live down at Pt Noarlunga but this will be changing soon as the family will be moving so that I can be closer to my work. We are looking around the Plympton area but also perhaps NE of the city. I might be keen but it's rather a busy time at the moment. I haven't taken any scopes out for over a month. Please keep me posted and we'll take it from there.

Hi Judith, Dan and Tom (who pm'd me) :welcome:

Great to hear from you all and thanks your interest.

I haven't set in any dates yet, thought I would see if there was any interest first.

Looks like I will have to start thinking about it a little harder now! :)

Will be in touch soon.

And then there were five, any other takers?

Regards

I think that ASSA (Astronomical Association of South Australia) does have a venue down south of Adelaide that does have regular meetings. I believe it is called Tooperang.

Check their web site

www.assa.org.au

http://www.assa.org.au/facilities/tooperang/

I found it with a bit of searching.

G'day Bart

Thanks for the advice, I am aware that Tooperang is a viewing site for ASSA, I don't know if they have what you would call regular meetings there either. Plus it is some way down South as well.

I am just aiming this as a small get together of people from the South, a drink and a chat as well as the odd observation session perhaps. A chance to make friends.

Gav

I'm in if I can find the time. Work seems to get in the way a lot and the "honey-do" list is now unmanagable.

OIC!

I am in also!

I have just moved to Blakeview from Sydney about 8 months ago and really don't know anyone down here?

Until tomorrow i am actually living at Lower Light on Pt Wakefield Rd and boy the sky out here is mesmerizing! Every night when i get back from worki get out of my car, look up and just say wow... It is really that spectacular.

Anyway, let me know when and where and i can throw the 10 inch dob in the boot and meet anywhere!

Tony.
