QSI 700 series

QSI are bringing out large format CCD cameras shortly. It didn't say in the promo whether they will have a OAG version. If they do I would be interested. Especially in the 29050 chip. That would work nicely with my refractors.

I have concluded after several years of imaging that OAG are the way to go and getting round stars has to always be your priority before anything else.

SBIG's latest guide chip in the filter wheel seems good as well. STX is probably a bit fat like a Proline. It adds to flexure problems but at least its got self guiding which would be handy for most images.

If you follow their promo web page to register for interest they have a drop down list for camera options. OAG with both 5 and 8 position filter wheels is offered there. Would like to be in a financial position to consider an 11002 in the latter half of 2014.

I have been waiting for some time now for this new series. I will certainly be looking at this once the camera series is released. It would be nice to update the STL. However, I wonder if the cooling should be lower. SBIG is at -60C and FLI is -70C. Surely QSI could go lower than -55C???

Shame to hear this, but as the FLI guy said at AAIC - we are fortunate that astronomy cameras are a spin off from bioscience imaging cameras. Without them to be the volume customers, the manufacturers wouldn't exist to make our cameras.

Yeah that is a real shame. I was actually looking forward to getting one of these cameras. Economics is king in this regard. Maybe in time.
