6 June Jupiter 2/10

Hi,

Seeing conditions bad. Kept tweeking the focus to try and improve it but to no advantage.

Thought I would just post a couple, mainly for Asimov who is occupied and cannot get to image tonight. Mate you are not missing anything.:hi:

The first image is 10fps 75 gain 0 gama 50 saturation

The second is the same except 100 saturation

It seems to me that reducing saturation bought our more detail. Can anyone else confirm this?

Here is 2 more at 5fps, the first=100 saturation and the second=50 saturation.

Good work Lester, for the poor conditions you describe. I've temporarily given up on Jupiter due to the persistent jet stream over Brisbane and I am trying to re-acquaint myself with deep sky imaging.

Robert the brave is still trying to battle on though!

Yes DSOs is where I will be heading in the near future, but just hanging out for a new more good nights with Jupiter.

I got time to have a look outside naked eye & saw the stars twinkling which suggested a waste of time imaging even if I wasn't busy.

The 'novelty' of shooting in anything under 6/10 is fast wearing off.;)

Nice images considering the conditions.

Tell me, was Joop doing the big undulations as well as the fuzzing in & out of focus?

Hi Asi,

Mainly it was like just out of focus, and the big heav was more like a small cough.

I thought it showed potential to improve, but I was tooo tired to wait around. I was falling asleep driving the tractor yesterday= had to have 5 minute cat nap at the wheel and was okay.

Thats the spirit, the next 10/10 is getting closer and that is a fact.

I have been trying to dull the colour slightly, after looking at most other Jupiter images. I like some colour to high-light the detail.

Hi Lester,
I also decided to have a night indoors last night after looking a the conditions. Jupiter photos are nice but every now and then we need some sleep. Praying for cloudy weather. You've done very well with an unsteady sky. My personal preference is for a bit less colour saturation given that in the eyepiece, Jupiter to me is pretty much pale vanilla and beige on beige.

Hi Graeme,

Yes I am still undecided exactly how much colour I like on Jupiter. During average to good seeing I can see the variation in colour while capturing. Although due to my lack of processing skills I am not always able to reproduce those colours.

Where do we draw the line, do we only reproduce what we can see visually, detail and colour. If so as you know all the DSO objects would have almost no colour at all, just different shades of grey.

I guess to some extent processing/enhancing images is an art form, where the indivual can add their touch.

The CCD chip is more sensitive than the eye, therefore it's capturing the colours present. It's up to us to decide how saturated those colours should be. Like you said Lester, it really is an art form. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder..
