Hi all,

I have tried this several times using cable #93920 connected to the Nexstar GT handcontroller supplied with the mount (running CGEM firmware 4.16 out of the box) and making sure that it is in "transmit data" mode, however whilst HCUPDATE (v1.1.14) can correctly detect the com port (COM1 currently) and can download the newest update to the CGEM firmware, it keeps telling me that the hand controller is not in "transmit data" mode and will therefore not go to the next step of performing the update.

I know that the #93920 cable works 100% and that the COM port is open and correct, as I have been able to successfully run MCUPDATE and I can also use NEXREMOTE to control the mount, and can also drive the mount using Cartes du Ciel.

Does anyone know if the Celestron Firmware Manager will work successfully with the Nexstar GT hand controller. If not, please let me know if there is a workabout available, or where I may be going wrong.

For the record, I have tried on 2 laptops running Windows 7 32 bit, no good... I have even run the software in Windows XP compatibility more, still no good...

Thanks in advance

Guy

You need the java based Celestron firmware manager it's on the celestron website. Works for my nexstar + hand controller.

Hi all,

I have since managed to perform the upgrade to GEM4.21 using HCUPDATE. I scoured astronomy forums and found out that success had blessed others provided COM1 or COM3 was used for the Prolific driver for the serial to USB adaptor and also using a powered USB hub.

Thanks for the info Nick. I did find that software, however it only works with the newer Nexstar+ hand controllers.

Cheers
