Hi everyone this was posted on Solar Chat but thought I might share the days result with those of you that dont use the forum.
Today I was visited by some students from the Atherton State High.
These students were with a larger group that came to Maitland Downs for the November Eclipse.
The school is in the process of acquiring some very substantial astronomy equipment under the guidance of David Platz.
After a brief overview of equipment and capture detail and procedures we started off.
These images are their own work with very minimal input from me. It seems once shown, they can and do just do it.
They have never used H-Alpha or capture programs or RegiStax6. They were all familiar with Photoshop and of course computers. Let the results SPEAK.
No1 Me watching them gather their Data
No2 Image by Kelly McColm
No3 Image by Cassia Bray
No4 Image by Chris Dilger

Hi Ralph, what a great thing to be doing.
Something like this may be all that is needed to strike a chord with a young person which may lead to a deeper interest in Science.

Congrats to you and also the kids for producing such nice results, particularly the full disk.

Regards
Trevor

Isn't that so impressive! You and the students should all be so proud. I really hope some of the students are inspired to go on to study science at uni. It's not the easiest life (and it just got harder) but it is immensely satisfying. I'm just a very small bit player but I've had a few moments that have had me bouncing off the walls with excitement. I can't imagine getting that buzz from any other career.

Thanks Trevor, These kids are smart Im here to tell you.
What you see is all there work after some basic instruction.

Yeah David it is a skywatcher and came from Smokey at Bintel. Cost $89 bucks and is the best thing I ever bought.

Batema They used my standard solar gear- Vixen 130ss and SolarMax 90 with DMK51 camera. They are getting a Lunt 152 shortly and will be set up at their school. ;)

Yep got it in one. If they were not there I just would not be in the race.
If the wind come from the SW, which is rare, I cant image. They do a great job.
