Hi All,
IISAC 2013 - First photo. M83 - The Southern Pinwheel Galaxy in Hydra. Back from Iceinspace AstroCamp, where we had three glorious days and nights of clear skies and great company, here is the first of hopefully many shots I collected whilst there. It's amazing what a difference a truly dark sky makes to the collection of data! This is an hour's worth of data using the Atik 314L+ and the 8" reflector on the HEQ5 Pro. A few niggles with the polar alignment (or my brain) out in the field meant I didn't get as many photos of things that I would have liked to on the Thursday night, this was taken on the Friday, when there was a fair bit of hazy cloud ruining some sub-exposures.
I might do a reprocess later on, don't know if I got the colours right....?

Nice one Chris!
That's a great result from Friday nights sky.
The colours look good to me. I know what mean re processing, at IISAC I was up until 1:00 am capturing the data but last night here at home, I was up until 2:00 am processing :screwy:
I'm looking forward to seeing some of the ED80's pics from Saturday night.
Cheers Rod

hi chris,
nice work - I would've liked to see a bit more colour in there!
I did a quick extra colour version - I hope you don't mind!
keep in mind im no authority!
- minor level adjustment
- lowered exposure, to reduce the core
- upped the saturation
- added a bit more vibrancy
- a bit more mid-tone contrast
there seemed to be a bit of green in space when you adjusted the vibrancy, so I upped the black by 1% or so in selective colour. but it needs more work.
Cheers!
ps looked at this version on with a 'real' monitor today and is stretched more than i thought it was on my laptop! i've gone too far! i'm definitely liking yours more now, just wanted to extract some more colour out of it, harder said than done!
Onya Chris !
Glad you had a good time.
It was great to finally meet you after all these years.
Looking forward to more.

It is a pity you couldnt make it Nicole, the skies were AMAZING
Cheers Rod, I am still going through them all, keep your eyes peeled.
Thanks Laurie ;)
Thanks Russell, Its strange, the first version of this one looked pink to me on Facebook, so I redid this one. I might redo it again later.
Great to catch up with you too Andrew, it was a great first Star Party for Anthony and I, we had a blast!
Cheers
