OK ... time to have another go, it has been a while.
I have posted a new shot.
This shot was taken post Cyclone ingrid last year (March 05), spiders made webs in lots of odd spots after the cylone bought them out of hiding !

Went for a walk in Toohey forest today, our local nature strip, looking for some natural patterns and I found this tree bark that looked like an island, hence the title “Bark Island”.

changed my mind, this one was the very first photo i took with my new 350D canon camera today. I love the blue background and the randomness of the leaves lit up by sunlight;)

Look what I found in the local botanical garden, yes you guessed it an alien plant just hanging around watching everything we do.

This is an image of a small slice of meteorite from my "geology" collection .... it's a slice of metallic meteorite displaying what is known as the Widmanstatten Pattern, after one of the discoverers. This structure is the result of a molten asteroidal core cooling very very slowly over millions of years, allowing the unique interlaced crystalline structure of the two metals to form. Scientists have been unable tpo replicate this pattern in a lab, in fact the ONLY place it is known to occurr is in Iron/Nickel asteroids and meteorites. The flat polished surface has been lightly acid etched to help reveal the pattern.
As soon as I saw the title for this months photo challenge I KNEW what I wanted to photograph as an entry ... and in keeping with the "Ice in Space" them too - trouble was I didn't realise exactly how much of a challenge photographing this would turn out to be. This triangular object is about an inch along the longest edge so you need a close image, and you have to catch the right angle to get the light to reflect just right ... of course you need a lot of light to show it, but a flash would reflect the light straight back at you from the almost mirror like surface.
Eventually I captured this image on my Kodak Z740, cropped it and adjusted contrast and brightness only (to highlight the pattern) using Paint Shop Pro. With the end of the month tomorrow, this is the best image I have been able to capture so far. If I can capture a better one in the next 24 hours I'll swap it over.
