I took my TEC110 fluorite for a spin recently and did some imaging with it. Its a lovely little scope with superb optics. The KAF8300 chip is a good match for the fast optics. I got this scope as I wanted richer colours than I was getting from the standard FSQ106ED. The switch from fluorite to ED glass in the FSQ came at the cost of some subtle colour saturation in my opinion.

I took this one about 6 weeks ago. I did 3 nights worth but only 1 nights imaging made the cut. More exposure time would have been nicer as always.

TEC110 Fluorite oiled triplet. FLI ML8300, PME mount.

90 minutes 390 seconds for the core.

Hi Greg

Great composition and colours. Like thr processing.

Noticed (at least on my monitor) that when looking at the full image that you have a couple of pixel colour runs (is that the term?) Far right, 2/3rds of the way up, 4 artifacts (red and blue "runs") and if you go horizontal from there just left of centre, a couple of similar artifacts

I've had these before and wondered what the cause is? just assumed its a processing thing

cheers

Greg - I FULLY concur on fluorite vs ED. VERY hard to beat a fluorite in my opinion. EXTREMELLY impressed with my old FL102S for imaging and visual.

Thanks for that. So far I have noticed this little scope does produce vibrant and clear colours easily.

Thanks Stefan.

Cheers Chris.

Thanks Justin. Some would argue but I have always felt there is a slight gain with fluorite versus other glasses. It may be subtle but its there. With this scope the colour on images I have done with it so far does seem more vibrant that other scopes I have used.

Thanks Larry.

Thank you Alex.

Yeah I thought I got all those, I cleaned the rest up. Thanks for letting me know. Not sure where they came from either.

Well thank you! Cheers.

Yes I think there is an edge to fluorite all other things equal.

Thank yo for the nice compliment.

Cheers David.

Thanks Mike. Its an older image taken maybe 6-8 weeks ago.

Late in the year for an M42 one would have thought, but obviously not the case.

Delightful image and somewhat unusual colour..nice.

Great processing, great image Greg.
On a separate note, its great to see so many colourful thumbnails when one comes into the Deep Space forum. Great to see so many new images for us to feast our eyes on and this is a stunner.

Gee thanks Rod. I am glad you liked it.

To be fair it was taken something like 6-7 weeks ago and I only just got around to processing it (and several others).

Thanks Rob. I find if the data is good and you concentrate on the basics like guiding and focus then the processing falls into place easily and I tending to go into a more natural style of processing. I think its my natural processing phase!!

I"ll be critical cause i"m a COB and say great image nice colour but overcooked the core I'd prefer to see the trap and surrounding stars more defined :)

M42 is imaged so often that we sometimes get picky... but I think this is a great one! Keep it up! :)

Getting the right exposure for the core is trial and error I think. I tried a couple of lengths and settled on 30 seconds. Perhaps it blew the trap a tad but perhaps also somewhere in the processing as well. Not sure. As I recall I chose that exposure length after checking the exposures and they seemed to have most of it there. Perhaps seeing was a tad weak on some subs. There's always next time!

Cheers. Thanks for that.

Hi Greg.

That is a beautiful M42 photo.

Sharp and detailed and I love the "natural" colours.

Nice composition.

Thanks Ross.

I did very little processing on this on the basis of its better to concentrate on the basics of an image rather than too much processing to make up for a lack of them.

Greg.
