View Full Version here: : Road To The Milky Way

Hi all,
Had one of those nights last night. Tossing and turning and I just couldn't switch off. Gave up at about 3am and poked my head outside to see that the clouds and smoke haze from fuel reduction burns around here had finally cleared a bit. Decided to head just a few kilometers down the road and do one of my 180 degree vertical panoramas. I did want to find a road that was perfectly aligned to the Milky Way overhead but with time running out I settled for this straight stretch.
Vertical panorama made from 10 horizontal images.

Cheers
Greg

This sort of upside down view often doesn't work but this is a very emotional view to me.
I very rarely use this emoticon in a serious way... but in this case here goes
Excellent Greg

Absolutely wonderful, Greg:thumbsup:
It took me a while to understand what I was seeing (horizon to horizon vertical panorama), but when I understood I liked it.
Even without the panoramic thing it would be impressive, great looking sky.

So do you ever sleep?
Love that image. Combination with zodiacal light at the bottom and green airglow at the top.. sweet. Unique but very effective composition.

Wonderful image, Greg!
The zodiacal light works wonderfully well with the diagonal Milky Way.
Thanks for the view.

Thank you so much for all the very nice feedback everyone. :D I really appreciate it.
Don't mind at all Bob. In fact I was very close to going with that orientation myself, but finally thought that the prominent tree "grounded" the image a bit.
LOL  Yeah, I can sometimes go whole hours without waking up and poking my head out the door to see if the stars are out ;)

'Z' for Zorro. Super cool comp. Great framing. I wish I could walk out of the door a 'few Ks' and see that kind of stuff. I only see pink here.
