Took these to check the tracking near the SCP over two nights.

Exposures 28x16 minutes in 3nm NII. Camera at -35C.

Dark and flat corrected unstretched 16 bit zip file here 36MB.

I suspect many people don't realise what a valuable service your providing for the IIS community by making your hi res data available for high speed download Bert. Our very own Australian Jim Misti making high quality data available for the masses :thumbsup:

I've been overheating my processor playing with your massive TIFF, and here are a few "shots". I've also found it fascinating comparing fine resolution versus my 8" newt. Just so much fun swimming around inside these huge frames. :)

Thanks Rob. I think it is important to to fully and freely share data. No data no matter how good, is any use hidden in a dark drawer! It always bothered me that I had no way of directly comparing my jerry built fridge cooled Canon 5DH DSLR data to a super cooled high end astro CCD such as the FLI PL16803.

By sharing my data it gives others an idea of what top of the line equipment really gives them. It will also show them as I have found out that mastering all the skills needed takes some time if not an eternity. This way a more informed decision can be made if contemplating expensive upgrades.

I am still of the firm conviction that a Bayer filter free Canon CMOS cooled to -35C with a 16 bit DAC will be better than a CCD at the same temperature. The only evidence is Canon are producing custom CMOS sensors for Large Japanese telescopes.

This for me is a hobby I enjoy in spite of or because of the many frustrations. It feels so good when you finally get everything almost perfect.
Just like when you stop banging your head on a brick wall.

The only competition I am interested in is doing better than myself by improving with time. For me the journey is more important than the destination. If I can help others with theirs all the better.

If there is enough interest I will keep putting up links to full res virgin data.


I like the way you managed show the really faint stuff. This tells me I am doing better than I thought at suppressing the noise at data collection and not so good at squeezing out the faint stuff with my processing.
