It started off with beautiful clear skies in Sydney 2 nights ago, but as usual, clouds rolled in around 11pm and spoiled the night :(
Taken with FSQ106 and QSI583, only managed a few subs
Ha: 2x10mins
SII: 1x10mins
OIII: 1x10mins
Will need a lot more subs to get rid of the grainy background noise.
Victor.

Interesting to see results from such filters with so few exposures, thanks for sharing.
The colour is great, the halo around the bright stars is distracting (but I wouldn't know if it should be there or not, I haven't worked with narrowband filters etc.)

Yeah I didnt like that huge halo as well. The stars from SII & OIII subs are much bigger than the Ha subs, I'm still learning how to process and reduce star bloats, obviously not doing very good job yet :)

I certainly wouldn't say "not doing a very good job yet" ... combining multi-filter images is a nightmare for me :) I haven't got the hang of LRGB :) We seem to have very high standards these days, I think your result is great progress :)
Hi Victor,
That's a great job considering you had such little subs! Your processing is very good :) What was your work flow? And did you combine the images with Ha:OIII:S -> R:G:B or did you do Ha:Ha:OIII:S -> L:R:G:B?

I used Maxim LE to combine the subs. Initially I combined using RGB only with SII:Ha:OIII -> R:G:B. Due to the good Ha subs, the green was overwhelming, so I combined using LRGB with Ha:SII:Ha:OIII -> L:R:G:B. I trial & error alot with each of the channel weighting, eventually settled with R:G:B to 1.5:0.8:3.0
After that I did a lot of processing in PS to reduce star size, played around with level/curves/brightness/contrast, colour/channel balance, minimum filter, dust & speckle, Gaussian blur etc.. until I'm happy with the result.
Victor.
Ahhh so thats how you got that colour palette! I had a feeling you had used Ha as the L channel. Thanks for the info :) I wish I knew how to use Maxim to stack RGB, I still use PS to do that
