Jupiter with DSLR movie mode

Hi all
I got the data a while ago now but Houghy put me onto Autostakkert which is great for stacking frames from the movie I shot.
Image is from a few 100 frames shot with 600D full res movie mode, 10 inch f5.6 newt. 5x barlow. After the stacking was done wavelets in Registax and thats it. In the days of film I was happy just to get a few belts, imaging has come a long way since then. Was happy to have 2 moons nicely line up and a shadow of one on the planet.

Very nice detail Scott. What do you convert the .mov file to before opening in AutoStakkert?

Sorry not been on here for a while. I used AVS video converter to turn it to a raw avi.

Hi Torndado33 - absolute cracker of a photo!

I found a piece of freeware called "PIPP"

which sucks in .Mov, crops and centres the planet,
making life a bit easier for autostakkert, and meaning
you don't have to convert the .Mov to .avi, and potentially lose data
in the conversion...

for those of us with dobsonians and heavy hands,
it also only uses frames with a full planet in it....
(wish i had found it before bothering to motorise the dob!)

Be interested to see if it makes a difference...

I used to do that with a combination of programs - VirtualDub, Phatch and Ninox - before feeding into Registax (AutoStakkert would never work for me with either discrete images or AVI's out of VirtualDub). PIPP would make that a whole lot easier and save a lot of disk space used for intermediate files.

Or, with a Canon EOS, Backyard EOS saves AVI's in RGB24 format that can be used by AutoStakkert directly.

If you use Backyard EOS for capture, use 5x zoom in Planetary mode, and that's almost exactly a 1:1 pixel crop - that makes for good quality video that works well in AutoStakkert. You can still use Registax for wavelets just as before.
