Jupiter March 30th QHY5L-ll 1st Light.

Tried out the QHY on Jupiter for the first time last night. Seeing was quite reasonable with elevation starting in the 40s and finishing mid 30s. Image scale is much larger than the DFK almost 1.5x I would say which means the 5x powermate is OTT. 3 images below 1st QHY with 3x Tal and lum filter. 2nd using IR 742 and 3rd DFK & 5x powermate.

1st QHY 3x Tal Lum filter, 2nd QHY 3x Tal IR 742 and 3rd DFK & 5x Powermate (taken at higher alt).

Cheers Trevor, Firecapture will work but It's sucking a lot of juice from my netbook and the frame rate less than I'm getting with EZ Planetary which only uses half the RAM. Its annoying because EZ splits the avis into 1.75 gig parts. So I will try fcapture next time and hope the system does not crash.

John I'm eyeing up a cheap RGB setup to try out and see how it works with the DOB tracking though I was hoping the 5x Powermate would work but thats out of the question as even without a filter wheel its producing f40ish.
Another option is combining the QHY mono shots with colour DFK. Just tried this using winjupos to combine colour, IR and lum. There was a 20+ minute spread so not ideal but despite the images being different sizes its not too bad :

Seems the IR filter in the second one brings out the festoons in the banding better, is that the filter doing that or the seeing at the time of capture do you think?

Champion stuff for a pom.:rofl:Just kidding. Reckon the IR filter is doing a top job. Cant get any weather at the moment were I live to image the planets. It will happen but Jupiter is gone pretty much so Saturn is it for now.
