With arrival of some new gear I've been experimenting with High-res solar limb imaging techniques. The results seem promising.
Hoping for better results on days with good seeing.

Looks like the conditions were pretty crap Peter.
Was that with a small chip Grasshopper or a Barlow?
When seeing suits you will see a big difference.

Thanks, but just OK me'thinks...I suspect, as Julia likes to say, I'm "moving forward" :)
Seeing was 2-3 out of 10. I use a PGR 6.0mp camera. This is a 1920 x 1080 crop.
It's not a big prom...FL was close to 4000mm....but I was happy enough to have caught some interesting structure in it.

I will be interested in your opinion on which camera you find best for proms.Look foward to the results.

Ta,. 4000+ mm me is new territory for solar imaging focal length. Didn't get to it, as one of the reasons the seeing was ordinary, was the rapidly forming cumulus.....

Peter I was flying at the time I replied on I Pad and since then I have had a closer look with the computer. There is considerably more detail than I first though. That combo will surprise you, I think, when the seeing comes good.

Hi Peter
I'm doing a bit of a catch up and spotted this post. That is a good hires but defeated by the seeing for sure. I reckon that on average at those focal lengths you can throw away 9 out of 10 grabs. So 1 grab might be useable and then I reckon you would have to see about 10 lots of those before you get an exceptional image. I think your bang for your buck will go up considerably around 3000mm.
Of course you could be the lucky and have endless run of days with sub arc second seeing!

I have toyed with this type of imaging myself before Peter. Seeing has to be pretty darn nice. Not often I can use the 5x powermate to get the images up to 2500mm let alone 4000mm. Tough gig, but worth a look. I can see where you are headed and I still think this image looks good.
