Hi All,

I have a Canon 60D and want to be able to backup my photos to a hard drive whilst travelling, however, I don't want to have to carry my laptop whilst overseas.

I know there are drives that will back up without the need for a laptop, however, I have only seen these advertised on US websites.

Does anyone know of a locally available hard drive like this or have any ideas about backing up photos on the move. My only other option is to take the SD cards to a photo store and have them copy the images to a DVD ROM.

I currently have 3 32G SDHC cards and don't really want to any more.

Cheers Peter

Peter, I'm in the same boat - my a77 eats 16GB cards alive - and I'd like to back them up daily.
The units that seem to get the best reviews on B&H are Sanho and Jobo. The 250GB ones are ~$US370 and ~$US410 respectively plus shipping. Sanho have a 160GB but as it's only $US30 cheaper it doesn't make much sense.

I couldn't find an AU seller except Haldex (for Hyperdrive) and their prices are unattractive.

Do you have an iDevice?

You can get an adapter which you plug into your camera and the other end into your iPhone/iPad/iPod and it downloads the images onto your device.

I don't know of anything locally.

In 2010 I bought one of these...

I still use it now. It's UI is a bit clunky but it's robust, HDD is user-upgradable and has neat data recovery functionality if you lose data on your CF/SD.

I did a post on this recently when I found a solution for myself. It uses an android phone or tab and inexpensive usb thumb drives. Capacity is only limited by the number of drives you want to buy.
Worked brilliantly during a recent Scandinavian trip when I ended up with around 80gb of raws to back up on the go.
