I thought this interesting , From News.com.au , today
More than 35 years after it launched...
The Voyager 1 "appears to have travelled beyond the influence of the Sun and exited the heliosphere," or the magnetic bubble of charged particles that surround the solar system, said a statement on the American Geophysical Union's website.

It's been looking that way for a while, but I'll wait till NASA calls it :)

NASA has since come out with a statement disputing this.

I am certain all will believe the NASA Team on this misleading release of information
....shame many still don't believe the NASA team (and the others listed) on THIS (http://climate.nasa.gov/scientific-consensus) much more important issue that has been the subject of much more serious instances of misleading information releases ...it's quite an amazing situation of double standards really.

Ron, I don't think that link will work if people don't have a facebook account.
It was the AGU that misled people. People at Nasa were scratching their heads over it from from what I understand happened. Universe Today rang NASA to check the accuracy of that article before posting it on there site and the JPL spokswoman they spoke to contacted Ed Stone (who was out of the country) and he then made that press release saying it wasn't the case that Voyager had left. The AGU since changed their headline saying it was a misunderstanding.
Universe Today article. (http://www.universetoday.com/100894/scientists-say-voyager-1-has-left-the-solar-system-but-has-it-really/)
I'll just copy & paiste my post here from the IceInSpace facebook page- it pretty much explains everything. :)
Oops. Voyager 1 has not left the solar system, after all.
The American Geophysical Union has apparently acknowledged the misunderstanding, and has changed its press release title.

Crickey, all I can say is lucky this headline never made it onto my page feeds, I would've been a tad annoyed, like many others I'm sure. For many of us, Voyager sure is our favourite little cosmic traveller ;)
Did any of you get this story appear on your feeds?

I got so excited about this, then I heard the truth that Voyager had not left our solar system :(, it was like someone telling me I had won lotto, then 1 hour later telling me I had not won a cent :( :(

Amazingly it is getting closer to the Earth at the moment but further from the Sun.
About 18,470,833,000 klms from home but the 70m dish is down for maintenance so its not being tracked
