Still awed by the performance of the SXVR-M25C, Iprcessed the 2 x 5min frames I took the other night of M42. I explained in Beginner's Astrophotography what I did.

Here's a link to the image anyway: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/attachment_browse.php?a=135201

I compared this SLIGHTLY processed 2 subs to the FULL processed out the wazzoo DSLR 24 frames, and there still is little comparison. I didn't think there was THIS much of a gaping morass between CCD and DSLR.

I am 110% converted, FOREVER!

Erm, well, OK...actually, if you could be bothered, you will see I posted a few of the new CCD shots HERE before I posted elsewhere - this was a link to the M42 image, not a repost. The other images are below-par M83, M104 and Cent-A images - in fact, if you had not noticed, I posted my M83 in your Matey-3 thread also. I have aso been posting my DSLR images HERE for months too.

Sorry if my enthusiasm and excitement offends. I get carried away sometimes. Nothing frustrated me more than unmodded DSLR imaging ,so this change to CCD excited the goolies out of me. Certainly didn't feel I was self-deprecating, but it is obviously the feeling you got. Probably more self-defecating. :)

Have I got this right - this is just 2 frames combined? Very nice indeed Lewis! I would like to see a full res image though (can't recall - have I mentioned this before?)

JUST 2! I could not believe it either! And with the most minor of stretches.

I will upload a full size one to Astrobin, or can post my lights, flats, dark flats and bias frames if someone wants to have a real play.

i would be interested in playing with some of your raw subs and calibration frames, however I might wait until you have a full set of lights subs on a target you're happy with before I trouble you for the data. (in fact maybe a set of lights taken with your new VC200L as its the same scope i'll be using ;))

Like you've just done, I'm thinking of eventually going down the CCD path in due course, and it would be good to have some data to play with to before taking the financial plunge (Brett actually offered me your M25C, but having just bought my new Vixen I was not in a position to buy a camera as well)

While I STILL wait for Astrobin, here at least is the file list in DSS and the initial DSS tweaking (saturation up to 20%, RGB/K adjusted)...

As per David's request - straight out of DSS 3.33 with only a saturation increase (20%) and a light stretch of the combined RGB. Nothing else. Slight guiding errors apparent :(
