Hi all,

With predictions of a fairly strong geomagnetic storm due to strike the Earth, I packed up my camera gear and headed to one of my favorite locations. Without mobile reception up there I had no idea what the aurora numbers were doing so all I could do was get setup and wait until it got dark.

This is the first time I have been able to see an aurora with my own eyes. Watching the rays and arcs flow across the sky was amazing. I have hundreds and hundreds of images from this wonderful night to go through. A crescent moon off to the right of frame helped light up the landscape during this single exposure.

More pics and maybe a timelapse or two to come.

Cheers

Greg

Nice.

I shot some startrails last night from the top of Mt Terrick Terrick, I was just going through the shots trying to work out what the bright lights were from 4:30am onwards.

I didn't actually see the aurora at the time, I was shooting in the other direction with another camera.

One thing is capturing it with your lens, another is actually seeing it with your own eyes! Congratulations Greg! Top shot too!

As I said earlier, gorgeous shot Greg! :)

Mate, you won't need the polarie if it gets to 8!! Btw, this one was visible from 29 degrees Lat, so anywhere in NSW would have seen it. A good spot for you would be south of Eden.. other coastal spots north suffers LP looking south.

lol, Colin. I know, eh!

I'll take note of it. Next time there's a big storm, I'll get my backside down the south coast and take the following day off work. :D

Thank you SO much everyone :D Still going through the mountain of images and timelapse sequences from the night.

Oh, I thought that I had put the location on the post Greg. Sorry. It was taken from the lookout below "The Horn" at Mount Buffalo, North East Victoria.

Nice plan  Check out Wonboyn lake or Green Cape. Some amazing patterns in the rocks at Green Cape.
