I took this one last Thurs night at my dark site.
3 x 90 seconds with a Vixen Polarie and a 30 seconds without tracking for the foreground.
Nikon D800E, Polarie and Nikon 14-24mm F2.8.

Nice widefield, Greg. I'm off to the USA soon and hope to give my D800E some exercise while I'm there.
Captures the mood at sunrise nicely Greg.
Hope it was a productive night.

Thanks Larry.
Thanks Rob. Yes it was a productive night and the night after as well. Beautifully clear and slightly cool but easy to take.
Thanks Rick. The D800E is an amazing camera and I still thrilled by its performance. I can't fault it, it does everything I want and more. Its almost alive with the amount of knowhow built into it!

I like it Greg, the central bulge of the milkyway really shines.

Thank Stephen!
That's quite a compliment - thanks Mike. It is quite a different workflow to my CCD astro images and its taken a while to get used to the software I use ( I would like to use Lightroom more but its very similar to the Nikon software and of course the Nikon software is very compatible with the D800E so its too similar. Lightroom though has superior noise control and Nikon's sucks). I am using Noel Carboni's actions mainly and Noise Ninja if absolutely needed (it seems to harsh on DSLR widefields, as I say I prefer Lightroom for that, it seems the best algorithim I have seen so far).
Cheers Marc. I did some scouting around for an upcoming standard Milky Way rising above water type shot this weekend and found a few nice spots. So expect a few of them in the next month. Then I'll really be in the club!
Thanks Peter. The Milky Way at my dark site is truly a natural wonder so its great to capture it in its various moods so to speak over the next several months.
Its a powerful sight for sure. Thanks goes to Luigi for his post about using the Polarie polar scope. I used that and first time it seemed relatively easy. I can get the Polarie very accurately aligned now in less than 8 minutes. I just need to put some tape over my torch as its way too bright to illuminate the polar scope.

Thanks Carlos. We are coming into Milky Way season!
Thanks Mike. I have scouted out a couple of scenic locations near my dark site with water and hills. At the right time I'll go down there and shoot another panorama.

Thanks very much.
I hope to do a whole series of Milky Way shots this season. I have even scouted out a lake with hills in the east to compose a more scenic backdrop for 1/3 to 1/2 moon nights.
Milky Way is rising very early morning at the moment so its a bit hard on sleep to catch it still.
