:welcome: Time to look at a winter sejourn, particularly venue and dates. Geoff (inmycombi) made a valid point with a shorter distance being more appropriate due to the shorter days and the time needed to unpack on return home. Therefore it might be wise to consider Bretti for the winter and Chaffey Dam in the summer months.
Some potential dates might be:
June 6th to the 9th. New moon is on the 9th.
July: 4th to the 7th. New moon is the 8th (not good a few people away).
August: 1st to the 5th. New moon is the 7th
September: 5th to the 8th. New moon is the 5th.
Have your say :) everybody's input is vital to a great camp.
As usual this is open to everyone, no exceptions ( maybe we might see some new faces also)

I'm hoping to make my first visit to Bretti (said that last year of course). No real preference over dates.

If everyone can put the occasional post on this thread it will keep it alive and make it available to all. :)

I note that the NSW July school holidays are on from the 1st to the 12th.
I guess this would be a negative?

I though school hols were a positive for you Greg??
If you are concerned about the possibility of there being heaps of people there i don't think that would be a problem, it is usually a summer destination for the crowds because of the swimming etc.
Only stoic personalities in search of horizon to horizon milky way venture there in the winter
But point taken.

That time of the year will need:
* Freezer suits or equivalent gear for the night.
* A camp fire of large proportions (as usual), we all collect the wood :)
* A sleeping bag rated at -3 at the least.
* Dry towels to wipe over everything in the morning (usually Dew/ Ice).
* Dew heaters for the scopes + batteries (my generator is usually used to charge batteries during the day if you bring your own charger)
* I believe there is a new amenities block there, i am not sure what is in it as yet, maybe a couple of us could take a run up one weekend and have a look)

Now lets see: 2012 was July in Bretti: cold ++
2011 it was August in Bretti: cold ++++
June 2012 as to be less cold maybe.
Besides we will miss drawing in the ice on the windscreens.
I might hire a caravan for that one though :)

Surely... someone can help this guy out...
(I would except I have no rear yard access and a campervan already parked on my small front yard)

Just to be a pain. August and September would suit me.:D
Other dates / Months I will be very busy due to another Central Coast Technician having 6 weeks off on leave.
I also have a surfing trip booked for Crescent Head 13th - 16th June with some non-astro mates.

Definitely a goer with me but Chaffey maybe???
I might do June or July myself anyway. August is a cardiac conference for me

I would prefer Bretti in September, just for the fact its a little closer than Chaffey.
Although Chaffey did have a distinct lack of " Cowpats" that we are used to at Bretti.
