Does anyone know the EXACT colour of the old Vixen hammertone green paint?

I am TRYING to find a 50mm Vixen finder bracket, in the original hammertone green finish, so far to no avail (though have an original green bracket base now, ex-USA) - preferrably WITH the 7x50 scope too :)

Failing that, I CAN use a more modern Vixen/SW bracket, but will still need to duplicate the colour. I have matched the GREEN, but cannot get it in hammertone, so it does not look RIGHT (no darker areas)

Lewis, I did something similar years ago on a vixen, actually painted it hammertone in a reasonably similar colour to get the texture correct, then oversprayed it with the matching colour with 2 light coats and ended up with a perfect match.

I can get hammertone brown at Bunnings - was thinking IF I cannot get an original, undercoat hammertone brown, then a light green overspray (Mitsubishi - appropriate - metallic lime green) - then a very gentle rub back with 0000 steel wool to remove the lighter from the high "lumps" leaving the lighter green in the "valleys".

Yes, I am anal about colours on scopes - an OCD thing :)

Tell me about it, I'm about to dismantle a brand new Stellarvue F50W2 so I can paint match it to the Takahashi.

The devil makes me do it !

I totally stripped an Orion mini-guidescope recently, primed it, and sprayed it Vixen white with epoxy gloss paint. Matches PERFECTLY.

The bracket for NOW is Vixen white. Looks OK, but not green :)

Received my green bracket shoe for the smaller original finder at least yesterday - will mount that on the right position with the old style small finder with green bracket for now (I have 2 of those now - one was likely original to my scope)

White Knight used to have a spraycan 350gr of Alpine Green Hammertone, maybe search for that.

Here it is: Royal Green

But finding it here????

White Knight no longer make Alpine Green.

Try the guy who posted this (http://www.outdoorking.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=43211). He might still have some.

Already have :)

Seems darker though.

Lewis, Claude lists a Vixen finder bracket for $35 possibly old green stock.

Worth a try?

I'm looking at the exact colour – I have a bracket (and finder scope) right in front of me. Unfortunately it's a 6x30 one, probably of no use to you.

EDIT Royal Green does indeed seem very close.

Cheers
Steffen.

Steffen, thanks - I have 2 of those :)

No worries :)

But Matt is right, Claude is a good source for discontinued accessories. The finder scope/bracket I've got came from him IIRC, around the late 90s when he was still selling Vixen scopes.

Cheers
Steffen.

Indeed he is - it was from Claude I got my VERY hard to find FL102S focal reducer.

I sent Claude an email last night. Also posted on Cloudy Nights classifieds.

OK, hit my local Aussie Auto - they usually have EVERY paint you can imagine, and sure enough, HiTech paint - Hammertone green!

Looks a little dark by the CAP (which was NOT hammertone painted, but plastic tinted) so will do some trials with it. I bought 2 LARGE cans for $15 each. I also lucked into a VERY old spray can of Sage Green auto paint, that is IDENTICAL to Vixen, just not hammer. So, may be layering one over the other. Stay tuned :)

Thanks AGAIN to Matt - yes, the 50mm brackets Claude has ARE old stock green - so I ordered 2 :)

The price is wrong online - it's $45 per bracket. Still fine with me. Total was $100 with postage.

Indeed.

And I just bought an OLD Vixen VC200L too - a REALLY old one :) (not the one on the trader I had an issue with)
