Hello everyone
As my subject states i looking for some advise in choosing right DSLR for my purpose.
It will be mainly for DSO with Saxon 100ED
I had a look at many DSLR and i stopped at canon, simply because it produce less noise at longer exposures.
Originally i was thinking of getting Nikon 20Da because it already has H alpha filter installed by manufacture.
My question is is it better to buy one those or it better to get one with out and get it modded with different brand of filter.
I also will be looking at installing cold finger. So i guess i will need camera that is most suited for that purpose as well.
I hope i made sense with all my questions and looking forward to your replies

The 20Da is actually a Canon. It actually has a modified infrared filter to allow mor H-alpha light through that is normally blocked by the IR filter in normal cameras. Normal cameras can be used successfully without this feature, just not as sensitive H-alpha light that is common in emission nebs.
The noise issue with Canon vs Nikon is that the noise reduction algorithm in the Nikons can be over aggressive and can remove stars when maitaking them for noise. All cameras have some degree of noise reduction built in, Canons generally has been the best for astro work which is why it is favoured by many imagers.

Hi Malcom
Opps i meant Canon not Nikon
Iam jugling between Canon 20Da and Canon 20D
I know that 20Da is modded form the factory, but if ill get 20D and modded myself will there be any difference in quality of the image.
Also down the track i would like to install cold finger for TEC cooling.
Is 20Da best for DIY TEC cooling or may be you can recommend different camera
Thank you

Oops, sorry! Forgot to mention, I assume the cameras you are looking at are secondhand. The current models are 60D and 60Da. From what I have heard the 60Da does better for daytime work than the old 20Da.

My two cents worth: the Canon 20D is an 8.2 megapixel camera. Most modern DSLR's from Canon / Nikon / Sony et al start at around 16 megapixels.
This gives you a lot more resolution to work with for AP. This in turn will give you more scope for zooming and cropping your images, and allow you to take pictures at lower magnifications which in turn means brighter images, shorter exposures, less tracking error..... etc...
So, all things being equal and ifthe budget allows, go with the 60D (16.2 megapixels).

20D doesn't support liveview man, go with the 1100D if you wanna mod and without fear. Another good option is a used 450D which should be a little cheaper maybe $250 ish, only problem is get a shutter count anything more then 10K leave alone.
