Sites requiring JRE are a pain. The less people go along with it the better. Flash having taken off is bad enough. It is now used everywhere to deface websites that would otherwise be valuable, with bandwidth hungry adverts.

I agree with Steve on both counts. Neither of my computers have JRE's running so I get the lovely grey box too :)
I'm interested to see it, but I can live without it :)

JRE enables applets to be run locally reducing the bandwidth required (after downloading once) as compared to repeatedly running these sorts of sophisticated applications at the host site.
