Been doing astro for years on my Meade, but want to do some wide angle night sky images on a lightweight eq mount using my Canon 350D and 18-55 lens. Also have acquired somewhere a .45 wide angle conversion lens which fits on the front of the EFS lens. Anyone have any experience with these conversion lenses for astrophotography?

You'll have to try it out and see. I bought an add on wide angle lens a number of years ago to complement my 40D. I didn't realise until I saw the photos on my laptop that it mainly gave bad distortions and false colour and wrecked a bunch of images from that holiday trip.
So I suspect it won't be appropriate but you never know. Its worth a try.
Greg.

To get reasonable definition towards, but not to the edges, you usually have to stop these lenses down to f11 or smaller.
Even then, the image becomes gradually more distorted and out of focus towards the edge. You'll find most are not the best for astrophotography.
