About 3 months ago I bought a GSO 8'' dob from Andrews which was well out of collimation for some reason. Andrews said it could have been dropped by the carrier which would not be surprising. I have it somewhere near now but notice when looking at a bright object a straight line cuts across the eyepiece. I dont see how it could be diffraction spikes caused by the vanes of the secondary mirror as the line turns when turning the eyepiece in the focuser so the question is it the eyepiece or I still do not have the scope set up properly? I am pretty new to this telescope stuff so need all the help I can!

Can u sketch the problem?
If you rotate the eyepiece in focuser does The bright line change

Hi Daniel yes the single line rotates at the same speed as the turning eyepiece and is only apparent on bright stars bit weird:screwy:

I haven't seen this, but I would be looking for a crack in one of the lenses for the eye piece. If it only happens with one eye piece then it is definitely that eye piece I would think.

More likely a scratch or something like a hair in the eyepiece, though its possible an element cracked if the retaining ring was too tight.

I feel silly as that is exactly what it was', a faulty eyepiece! With the smoke from the bushfires I have not had much use of the scope till recently and only used the 25mm EP. Put the 15mm one in last night and line disapeared, put the 25 back in and the line was back. Thanks for the help:thanx:
