I gave Jupiter a quick go last night. Camera on tripod up against the eyepiece. I had a lot of difficulty focusing properly. I also couldn't use the self timer function because by the time it had counted down 10 seconds, Jupiter had flown across the FOV. When I get my mount that attaches to the focusing tube then hopefully I can use the timer.

Aha...another candidate for the dark side :evil2:

Great start Middy. I think you would probably find that 90%+ of imagers started out with either an afocal of the the moon or Jupiter. Pretty hard without tracking though :P

Hi Middy, what a great start, well done:thumbsup: I don't know how you manage to get a recognisable Jupiter from afocal... I never managed it.

cheers,

Really excellent effort with your equipment. Its always disappointing to see the GRS just going around to the other side when you image.

Very nice Andrew. You've nailed the GRS and blue festoons quite clearly for such a Heath Robinson set up - great work indeed, something to be rightly pleased with.

Cheers

Nice one Andrew. Great start.......let me know if you want to borrow the Toucam for a night or two ;) You remember the fun we had last time you came around :D

I remember :) I didn't see you post any images from that night so I guess they didn't turn out too well. :(

Thanks for the offer on the Toucam. The laptop we have probably wouldn't be able to run the software. It is a slooooowww P3. I think it is a 300 mHz (yes, that's milli Hz not mega Hz)

Good one Andrew,

Thrashes the pants off of my first Jupiter taken back in early 1980's.

If anything I would say the bright areas are a bit over exposed, so you could shorten your exposure time which would sharpen the image.
