I've just pumped about 40mm of rain water out of the pool to get the level back somewhere near where it should be. I'll have to get rid of some more later today if the rain keeps going.

Three days ago it should have had a top-up. Glad I didn't do it.

I don't know what to do with all my clear skies this summer... Might use the clear skies forecast on Sunday to enjoy the Airshow and then observe next week as new moon approaches with yet more clear skies on the cards....

Looks exactly like what I see out of my window right now. Sounds like the whole east coast is drenched this week. :rain:

Hi Col,:)

It's obvious. Someone has won lotto and bought up big. Smart too. Not telling anyone. I know if I had a windfall I'd keep it quiet. Imagine the abuse that person would attract for being responsible for this much rain.

Time to conduct a witch hunt. Burn 'em at the stake. Boil 'em in oil.

Cheers:)

I wish we could have some of that rain. I just got home after being away for a quite a while and it's a dreadfully bone dry here. In fact putting on the bore pump, the surface won't absorb the water it's so dry here.

Did I hear somewhere La Nina was now neutral and you guys and gals are slowing moving into El Nino?

Yep, I'll share some of this. Bought my first scope in 2 decades while in QLD 3 or 4 weeks ago, brought it back to the New England region of NSW, saw a week or so of great viewing so got cocky and bought a Barlow lens and a solar filter a fortnight ago...

Haven't seen the sun since! Have 2 consecutive rounds of cricket washed out (the last two rounds before the finals, too) and haven't touched my golf clubs in a month now.

It's raining that hard here at the moment .. I can't hear my fingers ' tapping ' the keyboard.....fair dinkim.

The rainwater tank has been over flowing for days now.....
I now have a pool in my back yard I didn't have yesterday....
The frogs are ' croaking ' all night ... hard to sleep with that ' chorus ' going ... all in the same ' key '...like a ' cracked ' record

Hi People.

I have a problem with my Meade LX90-10" ACF.

It is not working correctly. I cannot see any stars through the telescope.

The last time this happened I fixed the problem by removing the corrector cover.

Now this fix no longer works.

Last night I set up and pointed the telescope due north and level, and did an Easy Align. The scope slewed to Sirius, but Sirius was not visible in either the finder or the main scope. No stars were visible anywhere. I checked the alignment of the finder by focussing on a distant streetlight and the finder was OK.

The scope is also getting wet when I take it outside. Previously this did not occur. My dew heater is unable to remove all the moisture. I am having a lot of trouble with moisture - my Farpoint dessicant plug is soggy and does not look good.

Any thoughts on how to fix this problem would be appreciated. Unfortunately the scope is out of warranty by about one year, and the suppliers have indicated they cannot help.

Regards,
Tony Barry

I have some dim memories of the sky being something other than grey and rainy .... maybe it was from childhood ... it was so long ago. If I remember right, the sky was "blue" in the daytime, and at night it was "clear" and you could see these things called "stars". But maybe I'm just imagining it. It was such a long time ago .... :(

:P

It has been cloudy for so long now, half the stars we used to look at have burned out, and are now black dwarfs....

Correction: Some one has won lotto twice and has bought a share of Hubble.

You must have to go to school or work. The blue stuff does happen, just not for very long and is soon replaced by grey.

There has even been a modicum of black. I tried putting my new Andrews 12x70 binos on a photo tripod the other night to see how well they worked on the clearly visible moon. Within seconds the condensation was forming in large spots. Days later the spots are still getting on anything you take it outside.

Time to pump 20mm or so out of the pool - again.

When life gives you Lemmons, make Lemmonade (just add water, and lots of it) :(

I saw some blue sky today in Brisbane, off to the north, but it is gone....

It's rumored there are some comets visible? I haven't seen them. Around 4pm we had some sunshine and I made a mistake - I got my hopes up. By sunset it was raining heavily, again. Practicing the virtue of patience.

The Sun is out now Eric, and has been long enough for our grass to be dry. Don't worry though. There's time left before sunset for the clouds to roll in.

I don't see what all the fuss is about, sure, there may be a little cloud and, sure, it has blocked all view of Pan-STARRS, but last night we were spoiled in Brisbane had a full four seconds of clear(ish) sky over Comet Lemmon.
