2012 DA14 + Meteor Train Merge

Hi all,

I've done a bit more processing on my asteroid + plus meteor train shot. What I did was load 29 frames in After Effects, stabilized on the stars to remove their motion, then stack the resulting frames using lighten blend mode to highlight everything that was moving. Much clearer than my previous pic.

The asteroid is the bright streak at left, meteor train right and the rest are man made satellites buzzing around doing their thing :)

Thanks Laurie, H, Mike. Pretty happy with how this turned out. The warp stabilizer in After Effects is amazing. I didn't even need to tell it what to register on :thumbsup:

Hi Colin, the material trailing away to the upper right reminds me of similar views obtained from many of the Leonid fireballs in 1998 and 1999. The trains lasted up to 15 minutes or more for some observers and distorted into all sorts of weird and wonderful shapes before dissapating.

After Effects seems ideally suited for the job.

Ian, thanks for the memories :) I saw the 2001 Leonids, 30 minutes of incredible activity from Kalbari, WA. Most spectacular thing I've seen (even trumps a total eclipse imho).
