we have a terrific display in Melboiurne last night. I managed to grab this out of many hundreds of mostly blank images.

First successful lightning image.

I didn't have time to grab the lightning trigger so just set the camera on continuous shooting with 1 sec exposures

You had better luck that us, we could hear the storm all around us but was not very conducive to photograph it. Great capture.

Well done! I set up with continuous 2sec exposures, hoping to catch lightning behind a beautiful rainbow in an orange sky with purple mammatus, looking east over to the Dandenongs...
10 shots
... Check focus . . FLASH!
:mad2:
Straight back to continuous exposures... 100+ shots ...
... Check exposure sett.. FLASH!!
:mad2::mad2::mad2:
... Another >100 shots, rainbow faded, no more lightning, headed in.

Never felt quite so picked on by fortune, must've had the hand off the shutter for less than 5s in 10min and missed both the well-placed lightning forks. Hey ho! Very cool storms though.

Nice shot Niko ;)

We had the thunder directly overhead over our way with a torrential downpour.
If I tried to capture it my camera would have been completely ruined.
I do have a D10, but unfortunately I’ve lent it to someone

Cheers Mark

Thanks guys!

Carlos - seems we must have been in the eye of the storm because I managed to happily snap away with only a few drops of rain for quite a while (c. 300 shots) before figuring I'd got as good as I was gunna before the deluge started.

I also bought a very cheap waterproof "coat" for the camera and lens from ebay which just leaves the front of the lens exposed - a great investment for about 4 bucks!
