I bought myself a new toy today, a Nikon 300mm F/2.8 ED lens. I had no plans of buying one because they are usually a very expensive lens, but just by chance I came across one for sale in a local camera shop today for a crazy low price and I couldn't help myself.:D
It's 2nd hand and has seen a lot of use judging by it's appearance, but the optics are in brilliant condition without a single mark, thanks probably to the massive 122mm filter protecting the front of it.
Hopefully I can get some clear skies over the weekend to test it out, if not I'm sure I'll find something to photograph with it.

That's one serious looking lens!

Does it ease the pain of the broken one?

Can't wait to see the photos from it!

That is one huge lense....it looks so much bigger then the canon 300mm F2.8 lense....shouldn't the aperture be the same...?????

Bigger is better anyway...nice pick up Jonathan

That is a serious piece of glass. :eyepop: How soon before you get to christen it with a series of nice widefield shots of the night sky?

Maybe just a little bit :P. I'm getting the broken one fixed, but it's costing me over $1k so I hope I've learnt my lesson there.....

Tony - They should be the same size, or very similar. The Nikon lens is quite narrow at the back end, so that could be making the front look even bigger than it really is.

With a bit of luck I'll have some test photos to post after the weekend. :prey: no clouds please......!
Even if there are clouds, I'll find some birds or something to photograph.
