From my location Jupiter only just skimmed next to the moon tonight but clouds thwarted any chances of getting a series of shots I was hoping for.

This was just a single exposure, just before the moon dipped out of sight low on the horizon.

Single 1/5th sec shot at 100 ISO using the 7D through the Orion ED80.
I was lucky I even managed this as there was cloud everywhere along the horizon.

Great shot RB, I was looking at it out the window as I was driving home from MAS last night.

I so wished I had my camera and 400mm lens with me.

Nice work RB, that is a very close encounter indeed – we missed this in Brisbane due to rain and clouds so thanks for this view.

Cheers

If it wasn't for your constant encouragement and spurring me on to image something I wouldn't have bothered, so I owe you a big thanks mate.
It was fun even though it was only a single frame and I got to use the ED80 and 7D which I forgot I had. :P

Yep Tony, I waited till Jupiter was close to the luna terminator to frame this shot (according to Starry Night Pro).
Not that I had a choice, it was the only time it cleared briefly for me to image it.

Wait, what's this, RB posted a photo?!

Well done! Unfortunately, I just installed the only scope I had (FS-60CB) back as a guidescope on the FSQ at my mate's property, so was just left with the 70-200 with 1.4x extender. Then, trees. Game over. :)

Good to see you shooting again. :)

Thanks H,

Yep it's been a bad couple of years for me health wise and so I haven't done much imaging.

I was hoping for a better result but as you know the weather had other ideas.

It was good to get the 'ol 7D out though, had forgotten how good it feels to hold a camera again.

Thanks H, yes it's been a long road back to recovery but getting there slowly.
A get together would be good !
