A stunning series Roger, really well captured and presented. Thanks for these amazing views; we totally missed this due to rain and clouds.
I love the partially occulted hi-res Jupiter and Galilean moons shot in particular.
Cheers

Thank you everyone for your replies! wow, so many, much appreciated.
I'm glad you have all enjoyed the images so much. It was so much fun capturing them, the night went so smoothly.
Dennis - Enormous shame you were clouded out. In 2005 I was 90% clouded out.
I have updated the first shot with Jupiter and it's moons with a much larger version (1500px wide rather than 900px wide) so you may wish to check it out again :)
Edit: New image is at the same blog entry: http://blog.astrophotography.com.au/2013/02/moon-and-jupiter-occultation-what.html

I should also add some technical details ....
Scope: Megrez 90
Mount: Losmandy GM-8 (hadn't been used for a year!)
Camera: Canon 7D
Shots are a combination of full frame RAW individual exposures and video using BackyardEOS's planetary mode.
I used my old Tamron 2x doubler between 7D and Megrez 90 to up the magnification. It's probably the 2x which added some chromatic adoration to the mix.
Considering the short focal length I'm really happy with the detail I got on Jupiter.
Regards,
Roger.

Great captures Roger!
I catched the 2005 occultation but misssed out on this one due to cloud and trees.

Nicely done, Roger. It sure was a gorgeous night. I imaged it from the Bell Tower and a few people wandered by and were awestruck by the view :)

Ahh, doh! I did get results from 2005 but was heavily impacted by cloud. I was using a good old QuickCam back then :)
Good on you for doing some sidewalk astronomy :) .. are we going to see a spectacular photo of the occultation including the Bell Tower?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed them :)

Nice photos. I was really looking forward to seeing some shots and these did not disappoint.
I was near Flemmington at near to 11:30 last night and it looked fantastic with naked eye.
Love it.

Thanks :)
Thanks :)
I was wowed by the view through binoculars ... I wouldn't have looked if it wasn't for my wife saying I should take a look rather than just looking at my computer screen :) But I was very much taken away by the view with my own eye's. :)
