well the weather gods really must hate those on the east coast of Australia:sadeyes::help: from Brisbane through to Sydney. the result - no comets for US to see:(. makes me want to cry:rain:. So I have resigned myself to the fact that I will have to rely on all of you in other areas to provide widefields and closeups:thumbsup:

I’ve resorted to nipping out in the daytime, between showers, to record photons having a terrestrial origin – it helps!:);)
Cheers

All dressed up and nowhere to go....all those astro toys just gathering dust.
The best I could do is observe the Lemmon through binocs, in between clouds.
It's sad indeed.
I was hoping to get a chance to image too but ........

Yes,I am almost at the point of selling all my astronomy gear-all the money tied up in so much stuff that might get used 4 or 5 times a year.
I just finished making a wildlife doco DVD with my son,and we have already sold 80 copies in first week.Think I might be better off getting out of astro all together, and get a a 5D2 and some kit to go with it,it would sure get a lot more use,and be a joy to use,and make some money too.
Bonus of such a camera would be I could do wide field astro (if we ever got clear weather!)
It's no better the other side of the globe either, plus we don't have the nice comets you guys do at the moment.
That said it is clear for now but the scope needs collimating and I've got loads to do first, plus the sink just blocked and the plumber is ignoring our advances.
Might whack the PST out for a quick glimpse if I can, this is the first day of 2013 that I can even do this.

How about sending some of your rain down here :), only had 1.2mm for the month so far and 10mm for January, everything is just about dead.....

My wife is beginning to think I live out in the Ob over here. We've had quite a long string of clear to clearish nights. In fact we could do with a wee bit of your spare rainfall if you don't mind please. :D

Its no better on top of the ridge either Dave. You've been posting more sol than me!
I've just about forgot how to use my gear... I'm a newbie again!

We only seem to have clouds but no rain. This is even more frustrating.

Awe that is a shame, anyone would think that these two cities are pretty much where Australia is located and the rest of us are just mining camps.:P
Personally I would rather have had clear skies last night for the occultation than worry about a comet.
You could always move from the east coast to the rest of Australia (the largest bit). You might have to live a little backwardly though and stop that incessant moaning about how the weather is on any one day.;)

Paul,
unless i have moved elsewhere the hunter valley is pretty well mined out and has the largest coal port in the world (not a good milestone to achieve).
our weather here has not been good for a few years now. back when the drought was in full bloom we had endless nights to observe and image. i was looking at one stage of travelling south to the provincial village of adelaide to see if i could get this - but time , cost and a little medical procedure yesterday stopped this. I have done it before - hopped a plane and travelled to see an astro event at a moments notice:P
i quite like the country - ;)
Moaning is a national passtime:lol:

Yup, I am a virgin again.
Saw Lemmon in between clouds a week ago - first astro in AGES.
Been trying to process OLD data just for amusement. The amusement wore off when I realised I want to IMAGE!!!
Houghy - are you ready to fire up the obs and bag a comet? - sky is looking not too shabby.....

to continue my whinge:P
I was dog tired last night, but given the forecast for the rest of the week spent the evening practicing Gemini alignments and generally relearning everything I've forgotten over the past 5 years! Even got the olde DSI fired up again.... wasn't too bad actually, heavy dew though....
just need to replace some corroded cables.... :)
Wanna borrow my Rainex for your corrector?
