Hello,

On recent visits to the Roma Street Parklands we didn’t have much success with insects/macro photography, but instead, came away with an assortment of Eastern Water Dragon shots. It was a nice break from watching the perpetually cloudy night skies….

I suspect the proliferation of EWDs had something to do with the scarcity of insects!;)

To maintain some connection with astronomy, I did manage to capture the Moon in the background whilst a Blue Faced Honeyeater was looking for nectar in the foreground tree.

Cheers

Nice assortment Dennis I really like the Blue Faced Honeater shot. We have several of these birds which along with some noisy miners turn up each spring as soon as we arrive with a load of honey and then remain intermittently throughout the season.

Thanks Derek, Andrew, Rick, Mike, Laurie and Deeno for your nice comments, I appreciate them.:)

The Blue Faced Honeyeater shot is a composite. In the bird/foliage frame the Moon was a blur due to shallow DOF so I placed an AF point over the Moon for the 2nd shot and then combined them in PS.

@Mike: good pick up! The EWD was munching his way through a flower bed, maybe as a result of losing those few front teeth? The scar tissue had healed and the guy seemed quite strong and healthy, so I assume that the flower petals were providing sufficient nutrition until he got onto solids again?

Cheers
