Just placed an order for the Vixen Polarie (birthday gift from my wife;)).
Has anyone used the tripod and ball head that come with the standard package of Polarie? I'm using a 7D and was a bit concerned about the weight on the supplied tripod and ball heads.

Hi John,

I just bought a used Polarie (hasn't arrived yet) and had to buy a ballhead to put on it. I looked up the Velbon Polarie ball heads and was a bit concerned about their load capacity for my 30D and f/2.8 wide lens. I've ordered a Vanguard SBH-30 to attach between Polarie and camera (https://www.cambuy.com.au/Vanguard-SBH-30-Ball-Head.html)

I have a heavy duty Manfrotto ball head that came with a 058 tripod that I'll use on the base.

One thing I like about the Polarie tripod is the multi-angle central column since that presumably could let you move the centre of gravity depending on your load. But you can get other tripods with the same feature.

Cheers

Thanks Morton

I have ordered the Polarie with the standard tripod and ball heads. Fingers crossed....

Polarie has arrived. The mount is quite adequate for a 7D but there is a bit of flexure in the legs so it would not be good on a very windy night. Under normal conditions it should be just fine. I did a quick test in the garden last night with a very rough polar alignment with a 50mm lens. Subs up to one minute are no problem. The ball heads supplied are pretty solid and more than adequate for the job. Looking forward to testing it under dark skies next weekend.
