Well, these days as our esteemed professors, gubburmunts, and climate scientists assert, rain is caused by global warming, as are snow, heat, cold, sunshine, cloud cover, hurricanes, thunderstorms, cyclones, drought, floods, hail, hot days in summer, cold snaps in winter, warm days in winter, cold fronts in summer, bushfires, frost, high dam levels, low dam levels, fog, cows farting, rainbows and everybody not driving a Toyota Prius.

Now we can add an asteroid impacting the atmosphere to the list.

Never underestimate the power of stupidity.

You missed one: Global Warming is the #1 cause of misleading posts in forums. :P

(Just in case someone misunderstands ... I believe climate change is a very serious issue deserving of an equally serious response).

I'm confused which dumb post are you drawing atention to the first one with the link or the second with the childish rant?

I remember my lecturer in climate and natural hazards (Dr Doom to his students) saying that the public can't handle more than one disaster story at a time and if there were two or more they would be concatinated in the public mind. At that time the confusion was that global warming was caused by the hole in the ozone layer. Two real problems but not causally related.

Despite all the denials by experts I'll wager that in many minds the asteroid will be seen as the cause of the Russian meteor. As for global warming, it will be blamed for everything from the pope's abdication to drugs in sport.

Yep, trapping more energy in Earth's atmosphere can do lots of crazy things... More extremes of heat, more evaporation, more drying, and a warmer atmosphere holds more water vapour, so you have a more active hydrological cycle (more evaporation, more precipitation). And changing the colour of white parts of the planet can alter weather patterns. Lots of crazy things from simple physics.

But extra meteors ... definitely not buying that!!

I'm curious as to how you develop your world view.
Could you please direct us to the source for your assertion that scientists misrepresent climate science to the general public?

Could you also point out how you came to the conclusion that a person in government, professor or climate scientist has claimed that asteroids are causally linked to climate change?

Or dishonesty...

In any event... who would you suggest we defer to as a source of objective information with respect to climate science?

Sardonic... perhaps?

That implies a degree of wisdom or understanding of the subject matter which is no where in evidence.

Wow, what's happening at IIS?

Firstly a discussion containing political opinion, that wasn't shut down almost immediately.

Now a discussion containing the global climate change opinion, which has been going for a couple of days.

Next we'll be able to discuss "the Holy Grail" (if you pardon my choice of words), religion. But I won't hold my breath.

Cheers

It's a sound bite on a slow news day by a reporter fishing for angles.

I think I may have some idea of her logic.:)
1. Global warming is bad
2. Meteor crashes are bad.
3. Therefore both 1 & 2 being bad they must be related and one has caused the other.:P

Just like Daylight saving is causing droughts and recycling water will drain the oceans.

Simple!
Cheers:)
