/Hmm, meteors are falling, I'd better start overtaking on blind corners. :eyepop:

SONIC BOOM!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Np_mpGYSBSA#!

The boom is at the 30second mark, speed of sound is 1/3 km per second so the meteor must have broken up at least 10km up.

Spectacular videos.

Years ago I was lucky enough to see a daytime fireball while sitting at traffic lights on my motorcycle. The lights turned green but nobody bothered to drive off until the show was over. A very intense light, an amazing smoke trail that stretched from horizon to horizon and a sonic boom. It made the Brisbane TV news shows that evening as well.

I've seen what I thought was a large bolide, but it was nothing compared to that!

Awesome!

What a great shot of adrenalin they must've got watching that!:D

Saw one similar, but less bright in NSW when I was a kid. Thunder clap and break up. It was night though - this one is much brighter to be that clear in semi-daylight. :eyepop:

it must be pieces of the asteroid!!!!

There is like 500 people injured, mostly from breaking glass it would seem.

I just watched this one posted on the Guardian.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=gQ6Pa5Pv_io#!

Visually the trail is 4:40; the boom is at 7min.
Calculating the distance via speed of sound to time difference; that's around 47000 metres.
Have I calc'd this wrong or that doesn't make sense?

Or the sonic boom travelled at a lower height above ground.

Wow, So i am left thinking, with that DA14 Asteroid in such close proximity to us at the moment, Could this be just a co-incidence or possibly a fragment ? ? I wouldnt rule it out ? ? just yet : )

leinad

That was East to West from the video footage, DA14 is South to North, so I doubt it's related?

Ah sry, so that was distance from the viewer, not its height :P
...still amazing!

An Extremely rare Astronomical event has occurred.A space rock(Meteor) has crashed and has exploded over Russia.Luckily someone had a video camera running when it happened so we can see it.This is especially of interest to me A similar event like this happened over 100 years ago in Siberia called the Tunguska Event in 1908

Some excellent videos of the meteor captured.Luckily cameras were rolling at the right place and at the right time and in bright daylight.:D:D:D

Having two rare but related 'near misses' on the same day should focus more attention on coordinating the various NEO searches. Only a matter of days before 'Armageddon' gets another rerun...

It is not a crator. This factory roof collapsed and it is believed to be caused by a sonic wave. This factory can be 100 years old so nothing strange :-)

They showed this one as the impact crator on the russian news.

The TV channel belongs to Kremlin and they often lie . It is the case now as it has nothing to do with the recent meteor. It is a gas crater in Turkmenistan and you can see it at
