Hi,

I was attempting to use EQMOD to track and image the comet last night.
Doing it wrong of course, but I'll get there thanks to a lot of help from Astroman ( Andrew Wall ).

Thanks Andrew!!!

Anyway here's a single 8 minute sub noguiding, hence the trailed stars.

Amazing amount of detail for one sub and you can still see the tail disconnection gradually moving further out.

8" astrograph - Heq Pro 5 mount - baader coma corractor - unmodded canon 1100D - cooler box.
1 x 8 minute subs - ISO 800.- processed in PS7.

Cheers,

Justin

Hi Justin,

Terrific looking image and for only 1 sub, wow!

Hope that custom tracking works tonight, looks like cloud might spoil the view for a few days..
Note you will get trailing in custom mode also as the comet moves, but you should see definite improvement in the tail structure... fingers crossed.

And very happy to help you Justin.

Super stuff Justin - this comet continues to please. When will it past its prime imaging window?

Thanks Andrew!

Yep, thats what I want to see, star trailiing and nice definition in the tail.

Thanks Ralph!

Thanks Matt!

March 10 and 11 will be the last best imaging window for Lemmon. It will be 1.4 degree's from NGC 55 but only 17 degree's above the horizon at 21.00.

Cheers,

Justin.

Nice shot Justin.
In imaging Lemmon a few nights ago I guided on the comet nucleus, simply clicked in PHD on the fuzz ball and it seemed to guide OK. Have you tried that? My guide scope however is an old 30mm finder.

Thanks Gary!

Yep, already done that, see previous post http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=103143.

The reason I want to use EQMOD is to image fainter comets that won't show up in the orion mini guider.

Cheers,

Justin.
