Rain falls in the distance.

After a 100 km chase, I managed to capture this small section of a major storm as it made its way to the sea.

Later that evening, I captured lightning striking out over the ocean.

I made this photograph about ten minutes before the Sun relinquished for the day.

Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
2s f/16.0 at 23.0mm iso100

I love this camera, so much. Best. Camera. Ever.

Slightly larger version available here (http://users.tpg.com.au/hqureshi2/a.html).

Comments, critique, etc., most welcome.

Thanks, mate. I think it's one of my better images. :)

Love minimalist dynamism.

Worth the chase H a lovely capture indeed, the coloring is spot on, well done mate.

Just on a different note, have you ever been outdoors very early in the morning before Dawn and saw the most brilliant sunrise among storm clouds and early lightning strikes. :eyepop:

Well I did this morning, and there was no hope of getting my Camera

Leon

Marc,

Thanks! That's what prompted me to actually photograph this. I'd been photographing about this area before and getting the (double) rainbow that was there. But, when I saw this thing, I had to get it. I've never seen anything like it, so close, too.

Bob,

Cheers! Sounds like you're a stormchaser, too. :)

Leon,

Thank you, muchly. I have not been fortunate enough yet to experience twilight lightning. That's next on the list -- would be pretty damn special.

Thanks, guys. I was wondering if I'd posted a dud. :)

Andrew,

Thanks, mate!

I'll try and process the other ones soon from about the same time with the rainbow. Was quite pretty.

Very nice H, the colours are fantastic. Amazing how you are able to bring a flat grassy plain alive like that, great work.

Very subtle landscape H. Beautiful. It would look great in oils. I get it, but not so easy to pull off.

Colin,

Thank you -- high praise, indeed. :)

prokyon,

Thank you! I have a 5D and 5D Mark II, as well. I love them all! They all have their own particular look and feel, and, the way they react to contrast adjustment. It's a lot of fun to play!

Rolf,

Thank you, so much. Appreciate the compliment. :)

Rowland,

As you may have seen me mention before, I choose to photograph in light that helps my images resemble paintings. I can see why you think this would work in oils. Do you paint? :) Thank you.

Thank you, all!

I don't paint H, but I grew up around art. My love of inverted images comes from my father's charcoals.

Way cool H. Looks like a great location. Lake George? What are the night scape prospects like there? ;)

Horrible, man.

The damn lights flood half the lake, and, I don't know if you're actually allowed on the lake itself. It might be private property. If the lights weren't a problem, it might make for a picturesque location as it faces dead east!
