Hi all,
I have a North Group ED80 (ES/meade/hioptic) that seems to lack enough "in-focus". My DSLR comes to focus no problem, and also when using my 2" 24mm eyepiece and 2" mirror diagonal it's fine. But when I use my 2" 15mm or my 1.25" 12mm illuminated eyepiece when doing star aligning for the Go-to, they both fall just short after the focuser is racked all the way in. I tried using a barlow on the 12mm but that didn't work.
I'v read that maybe it's the mirror diagonal, and swapping it for a quartz could fix it? Shorter light path I'm guessing?
So basically I was wondering if anyone knows why or has had this problem before and can help me out?

Thanks for reading
Chris

Hi Chris - I have a North Group ED102 & had a similar problem.

I was able to alleviate the issue by using a 1 & 1/4 inch diagonal giving a shorter light-path (all my eyepieces could fit 1 & 1/4 inch anyway).

I ultimately upgraded to a Moonlite focuser which is just better on so many levels.

Thanks Pete
Yeah I was thinking along those lines and getting a new diagonal, only means I won't t be able to use my 2" eyepieces. But I guess I did by the ED for taking pictures after all! :-P And yeah a moonlite would be pretty sweet!
