Poor guiding and poor conditions, but finally I managed to process with layers and layer mask so that the core isn't burnt out.

10x60s and 5x90s (only a few darks). So there is infinite room for improvement.

Shot through my C9.25 with f6.3 reducer.

Nice one Rnulf - you've managed to show the 4 stars in the trapezium quite well! More data will certainly improve the image, so as you say you have room to improve on this. One question: the dim outer areas look quite posterized - are you stretching in PS as a 16 bit image prior to saving as an 8-bit jpeg?

Thank you David (and Mike).
Yes, I've processed in 16 bit tif and saved 8-bit jpg (I think - must admit that there are heaps of concepts and details that I really do not understand or know very well).

Of course, this was a first atempt with the new camera. I hope to do, say, 2 hours in total on this. The problem, however, is that the weather is, what do you say, crappy! And it will stay so for another week, at least.:mad2:

Grab your telescope and camera and come to Western Australia ..
Here the weather is almost perfect for ground-level observations ..

BTW. Nice photo, I wish my first were of that quality !!!

Thank You. I understand that I was born in the wrong country...My friend Harald and I often dream of dry, warm, clear skies, and not freezing cold, dark nights every second month.

-12 degrees celsius puts you're equipment to the test.
