Here is an old pic I found taken on 17th November 1989 near Hall, near Canberra. 50mm lens, Pentax SLR, f/2, 40 seconds. I think it was with 1000ASA colour film.

The red is evident with some sheeting? as well as some green to the lower left.

Thanks for looking,

Tom

Wow! Had no idea this was visible in Canberra? Although, I was 4 when you took this photo...

Beautiful! I remember seeing the Aurora from Canberra some time in the late '90s (I must have missed the '89 one).

I was out in my front yard with my trusty Astroscan when I noticed it some time around midnight. I went next door to see if my neighbour was still awake because I knew he'd be interested, but there was no response to my quiet knocking, so I assumed he was asleep. I spent the next hour or so just watching it in awe.

The next day I learned that my neighbour spent the an hour hunting around his house with a machete, trying to find the intruder he had heard!!

I don't recall seeing green, just the red glow, which didn't look as bright as the photo. I've attached the results from astrometry.net to the original post.
