As of July all shops and offices in France will have to shut off their lights at night, under a government decree from the Environment Ministry. The new law will cut carbon dioxide emissions by 250.000 tonnes a year.
The interior of non-residential buildings will have to be turned off an hour after the last worker leaves, and lights on buildings facades and in shop windows by 1 am.

There will obviously be exceptions like for example the Eiffel Tower with its 20.000 flashings lights .

I can foresee a mass exodus of astronomers leaving Au for France.
Well, maybe not.

Yeah maybe not :p we are supposed to move later in the year to near Paris and really don't want to even though the LP can't be as bad as Belgium it will be very similar I fear.

That said I think this is a very positive move forward and something that should be initiated everywhere.

I still have doubts this will really change LP conditions as it doesn't really address the main culprits but like I said it's a start and should be applauded. I'd be interested in before and after skymeter results.
The other thing is I don't really expect people will actually obey this law and enforce it. There is a good chance if they did try to dish out penalties then they'd all go on strike.
