T-ring movement

Before I go off and get another, I assume there shouldn't be any play between a (Canon) t-ring and the camera when connected? Mine has a tiny bit of rotation which I suspect is sometimes causing star trails.

Not uncommon....
The small locating pin and the size of the hole in the T2 ring seems to be the issue....

Mine does, and it's Vixen made. Just a TINY amount. So, when imaging, I apply a seal of metal tape along the top edge, pressing it down completely. No rotation issues now.

Forgot to do it last time out, and yes, small star trails on a totally windless, calm night of perfect seeing and guiding.

So it's not just me. Glad we got that sorted. I can't remember if there was any play in it when I first got it. Sounds like a bit of tape will have to do. What's this metal tape that you speak of Lewis?

You can buy metal tape at various places - Bunnings etc. I actually got my couple rolls at Aldi for like $2.99 each.

VERY adhesive, and backed with aluminium (I think!) You can press it and conform it PERFECTLY to seal gaps etc.

They use a higher grade of this tape in aviation for quick non-structural (I HOPE!) repairs. Ask Col :). Once saw a Mooney with about 2 foot of the stuff on one leading edge.

Thanks. Is there a particular reason for using metal tape? Do you have a picture to show me where you put it?
