I think this is the first image I've shared on here... I rediscovered the data while clearing out a hard disk a few nights ago, and decided to give it buff and see what fell out.

The final image is 14x 46 second images (about 10 mins in total) at 55mm on my modified Canon 300D at ISO 800 (yeah too much I know). I had 5x 150 second images too but these added nothing quality-wise to the final image - mostly because I had no proper darks. Something went wrong with them.

All my gear is a bit cheap and nasty now so I won't be trying to take any more pics until I can afford a new set of gear, hopefully later this year. Till then, maybe I'll discover some other forgotten gems (more likely duds) floating around my hard disks.

Cheers,
Cam

Nice capture Cam.

Your gear is more than capable of producing very nice, wide photos.

Ross.

Thanks Laurie and Nathan! :)

I've been honing my digital darkroom skills for a while, even when not take pictures myself. Hopefully I can hit the ground running when I get some new gear.

Cheers,
Cam

Thanks Ross. I find the dark noise in the 300D to be a real problem here in the Australian heat. My attempts at imaging Orion this summer were hopelessly overwhelmed by noise.

I'll upgrade to a 550D or a Nikon D5100 later this year. That should make a big difference.

That's a very nice widefield indeed. Good colors and sharp stars.
